Gradekeeper allows you to email students progress reports from the File menu.
This topic is covered on pages 36-37 of the Gradekeeper Users Guide (PDF), on this online FAQ question, and on this page at the Gradekeeper's site.
This system of sharing reports works with SSC's (SMTP) email server, as long as McAfee protection is disabled. This is a very simple procedure which you can undo immediately after you have mailed your reports. See below for instructions.
To send email reports, do the following (step 1 you only have to do once):
- First you will have to enter your students' email addresses. You can do this manually: From the Edit menu, select Edit email addresses. Enter the addresses one by one (you can copy and paste). You can also import the addresses in a CSV file (which can be easily produced from an Excel file) that has the student ID's alongside the email addresses. Ask Dr. Aske for help with CSV files.
-
Next you have to tell Gradekeeper which email (SMTP) server to use to send the reports: Go to Edit menu, select Edit Email Server. Enter your email address. Under SMTP server address enter smtp.salemstate.edu. Under SMTP server port, enter 25. Then enter your SSC email address login and password at the bottom.
- To email reports to all students, go to the File menu and select Email student scores. From inside a student's individual report you can right click on the page and chose to email it to that student as well.
- First find the McAfee icon on the tray area by the clock (it looks like a shield and has a V inside).
- Then right click that shield; a menu will appear; left-click on Virus-scan Console:
- Right click the first element, Access Protection, and left-click on Disable.
- Leave the window open. Come back to it after you have mailed your reports and reanable Access Protection.
If you think you can do it, there is also possible to tell McAfee to always allow Gradekeeper to send mail. These are the instructions:
- Right click McAfee Shield in system tray
- Left click Virus Scan Console
- Right click Access Protection and choose Properties
- Left click Anti-Virus Standard Protection
- On the right, under Rules, double-click on 'Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail'
- In the 'Processes to exclude' section scroll down to the bottom of the list and put a comma after the last entry. Now hit space and type in Gradekeeper.exe (capital G)
- Click OK
- Click Apply and then OK
