SSC LYRIS email Lists Administrators Page

If you request a Lyris mailing list from the academic list coordinator (Jon Aske) you are a list manager (did you know that?). YOu will be placed in a mailing list call listmasters from which you will occasionally receive messages about the status of the list server and other such things.

This page will inform you of some things that are important to all list managers:

1. Address collection: If you decide to collect people's addresses for your elist the old-fashioned way, this form (PDF) may help.
2. Bouncers: By default, list members stop being sent mail if 5 consecutive messages sent to them by a list bounce back. This happens sometimes to Salem State faculty who let their diminutive mailboxes fill up and thus messages sent to them bounce back to the sender. The default can be changed by the list administrator. You can also set up your administration preferences so that you are notified whenever any member bounces a message.
3. Subscribing: If you want to add addresses to your list or tell people how to join a list, it's very easy. Go to: http://listserv.salemstate.edu/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?join=listname (substituting your list's name, where it says listname). People can also join the mailing list by sending email to join-listname@listserv.salemstate.edu (substituting your list's name, where it says listname). For additional methods, go here
4. Who is on your list? You can get a listing of who is (and who isn't) on your lists at any time. By default all list administrators can do this (administrators can also set it up so that any list member can obtain the listing). The way to do this is for the administrator to send a message (from his/her email account, with the correct return address) to lyris@listserv.salemstate.edu. The body of the message should contain the following two lines:

   review listname all
   login password

   (Instead of listname, insert your list's name. Instead of password, type your own administrator password. If you don't remember your password, go to the list's webpage and request that it be sent to you.)

All list administrators should please:

1. Join the Join the SSC Listmasters (list administrators) Group mailing list
2. Let the listmaster know when a list is no longer in use so that it can be deleted.
